Quick Start Guide

Updated on May 1, 2026

This guide explains how to set up Performance Box Touch and start recording data.

Depending on the kit purchased, your unit may include optional accessories such as a battery and external antenna.

Insert a FAT32-formatted SD card into the side of the unit.

All data is recorded directly to the SD card.

For best performance, use a Class 10 card or higher.

You can power the unit in one of the following ways:

  • Connect the supplied USB cable to a 12 V vehicle power source
  • Use the optional battery (if installed)

When powered:

  • The unit will turn on automatically when connected to external power
  • If using the battery, press and hold the battery power button to turn the unit on

On startup, the unit will:

  • Display a splash screen
  • Search for satellites
  • Detect the SD card
  • Open the display mode screen (first use only)

Mount the unit securely using the supplied windscreen mount.

Ensure the screen has a clear view of the sky for reliable GNSS reception.

The internal antenna is suitable for most installations.

If signal quality is poor, connect an external antenna and place it on the vehicle roof with a clear view of the sky.

The unit is ready when:

  • Live speed or test data is visible
  • Values update in real time
  • The logging icon appears when recording

For reliable operation:

  • Ensure the SD card is inserted
  • Ensure a clear view of the sky
  • Wait for satellite lock (first use may take several minutes)

Once set up, the unit will:

  • Display live performance data
  • Record data to the SD card
  • Allow you to switch between modes without reconfiguration

Select a mode using the Mode button on the screen:

  • Acceleration
  • Deceleration
  • Lap Timing
  • Speed

The unit will display live data based on the selected mode.

Logging starts automatically when movement is detected (default setting).

Tap the Media Status Indicator (SD card icon) when it is green to start or stop logging manually.

Recorded sessions are saved as .vbo files on the SD card.

These can be analysed using VBOX Test Suite.
