Troubleshooting

If you are trying to install Circuit tools on your Mac for the first time and you see the following warning:

We are currently working on a permanent resolution, however, the instructions on this page will enable you to install the software.

You have 3 options: 


Option 1

Open the installer manually.


Option 2

Manually open the installer through the Security & Privacy settings. 


Option 3

Change the Security & Privacy Settings to allow apps downloaded from anywhere.

  1. Click Go in the Finder.
  2. Select Utilities.
  3. Double-click on Terminal.

  1. Type the following command: sudo spctl --master-disable
  2. Hit Return.
  3. Authenticate with an admin password. 
  4. Hit Return.
  5. Exit the Terminal.
  6. Click on System Preferences on your Mac Dock.
  7. Click Security & Privacy. 
  8. Click on the lock icon at the bottom of the window.

  1. Enter your password to unlock Security & Privacy.
  2. Select the Anywhere radio button under the section called Allow apps downloaded from:.
    (This option will only be available after you make the change in the Terminal.)
  3. Click on the unlocked lock icon to save the change. 

This change will stop Gatekeeper from monitoring your computer for malware coming from apps and files. 

You will now be able to install Circuit Tools as normal. 

Restore to the original setting #

  1. Make sure that you exit the System Preferences on your computer. 
  2. Click Go on Finder.
  3. Select Utilities.
  4. Double-click on Terminal.

  1. Type in the following command: sudo spctl --master-enable.
  2. Hit Return.
  3. Authenticate with an admin password.
  4. Hit Return.
  5. Exit Terminal.

Confirm that your Mac has restored the default settings by:

  1. Opening System Preferences from your Mac Dock.
  2. Select Security & Privacy.
  3. Check the Allow apps downloaded from: section and confirm that the App Store and identified developers radio button is selected.

  1. Go to your Downloads folder
  2. Right-click (two-finger-click if you are using a trackpad) on the Circuit Tools.pkg file
  3. Select Open With
  4. Select Installer (default)

  1. You will see the same warning, but this pop-up will have an Open button.

  1. Click on the Open button.
  2. Proceed with the installation as normal.

  1. Click OK to dismiss the warning message.
  2. Click the Apple icon in the top left corner of the screen.
  3. Select System Preferences...

  1. Click Security & Privacy in the System Preferences
  2. Find the message about the Circuit Tools.pkg being blocked
  3. Click Open Anyway

  1. Proceed with the installation as normal.
