Firmware Updates

This page provides everything you need to update the firmware on your VBOX Pit Lane Timer and understand what has changed between versions.

It includes:

  • Firmware update instructions to guide you through the update process.
  • Release notes outlining new features, improvements and bug fixes for each version.

Firmware updates may introduce new features, improve performance, or resolve known issues. We recommend keeping your device up to date to ensure the best performance and compatibility.

The update process is SD card-based and does not require any cables, software tools, or a PC connection.

Equipment List #

  • An SD card (FAT32 formatted)
  • A computer to download and copy the firmware file
  • Login details to download firmware from VBOX Motorsport.
  • Your VBOX Pit Lane Timer unit with a power supply

  1. Download the latest firmware file from the VBOX Motorsport Website.
  2. Unzip the folder and place the .upgrade file in the root directory of the SD card (not in the media or any other folder).
  3. Insert the SD card into the side panel of your unpowered VBOX Pit Lane Timer.
  4. Power up the VBOX Pit Lane Timer unit while long-pressing and holding the Up arrow button.
  5. The Pit Lane Timer will display a progress bar until the upgrade is complete.

The unit will automatically power-cycle as part of the update process.

# October 2024

NEW

  • Added locking function on Auto Screen Orientation when the vehicle moves faster than 5 km/h.

CHANGES

  • Increased accuracy of printed time stamps in pit results file.
  • Improved LED behaviour during countdown to pit box exit.
  • Changed the default settings to better suit typical applications.

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed a bug where session time was lost if the unit is power-cycled on track.
  • Fixed a bug where the screen would remain dimmed under specific conditions.
  • Fixed a bug where Factory Reset did not remove existing pit locations.

First release to support new VBPIT02 hardware.

This firmware is not backwards-compatible with the previous hardware version of the Pit Lane Timer.
