Firmware Updates

This page provides everything you need to update the firmware on your VBOX LapTimer and understand what has changed between versions.

It includes:

  • Firmware update instructions to guide you through the update process.
  • Release notes outlining new features, improvements and bug fixes for each version.

Firmware updates may introduce new features, improve performance, or resolve known issues. We recommend keeping your device up to date to ensure the best performance and compatibility.

The update process is SD card-based and does not require any cables, software tools, or a PC connection.

Equipment List #

  • An SD card (FAT32 formatted)
  • A computer to download and copy the firmware file
  • Login details to download firmware from VBOX Motorsport.
  • Your VBOX LapTimer unit with a power supply

  1. Download the latest firmware file from the VBOX Motorsport Website.
  2. Unzip the folder and place the .upgrade file in the root directory of the SD card (not in the media or any other folder).
  3. Insert the SD card into the side panel of your unpowered VBOX LapTimer.
  4. Power up the VBOX LapTimer unit while long-pressing and holding the Up arrow button.
  5. The LapTimer will display a progress bar until the upgrade is complete.

The unit will automatically power-cycle as part of the update process.

  • New mode management
  • Reinstated loading and saving reference lap files
  • You can now load a reference lap file with any name, provided the file ends with .ref or .REF
  • Reintroduced the shortcut to clear lap timing data
  • Reintroduced saving and loading sectors and start finish line files via HD2
  • Greyed out min speed and stop logging delay options when logging mode is set to continuous logging
  • Improved track layout detection at the Nürburgring
  • Fixed an issue where max lateral and longitudinal G values could extend off the screen
  • Improved handling of reference laps while using VBOX Lap Timer with VBOX Sim

  • Supports the release of the rear connector hardware.
  • Default screen brightness has been increased from 3 to 4.
  • Auto Screen Orientation is now locked over when the vehicle is over 5 km/h.
  • Fixed a bug related to reference lap times and gates settings being carried over from separate sessions.

# 26 April 2024

  • First release to support new VBLAP02 hardware with black fascia.
  • This firmware is not backwards-compatible with the previous hardware version of the LapTimer.
