04 - VBOX Broadcast Software overview

By default, the VBOX HD Broadcast will automatically adjust white balance and exposure as required. In some situations, the user may wish to have control over the cameras behaviour.

Settings adjusted within this software can be loaded directly into the VBOX HD Broadcast, or saved on a local PC directory for future use. The VBOX HD Broadcast will retain any custom settings until a new configuration is loaded.

  1. Load/Save Configuration - Here settings files can be loaded from a Local PC, or saved onto an SD card and loaded onto a VBOX HD Broadcast unit.

  2. Upload/download settings – These will only work when a unit is connected to the PC via USB cable.

  3. Camera settings

-Exposure – By default the VBHD will try and attain an overall luminance of 130. If the luminance slider is moved, the auto-exposure will try and attain that new value by changing the exposure time depending on how much light is in the scene.

To fix the exposure to a set value, un-tick ‘Auto exposure’ and then the slider becomes exposure time, with a shorter exposure on the left, and a longer exposure on the right. The actual value relates to the number of lines in the sensor over which the exposure is carried out.

-Gamma Slope – A high gamma number will produce a large difference between light areas and dark areas, but will risk bright spots bleaching out. A low gamma number flattens the difference in brightness across the image, showing more detail in the brighter areas such as the sky or in snow.

-White balance – By default this will be controlled automatically. The user is able to select from four pre-set colour setups depending on their application.  There is also a manual option which allows the colour fields to be edited manually. Press ‘Reset Defaults’ to restore all camera settings to standard configuration.

  4. Video settings – Video format controls the SDI output rate. By default this will be 60Hz. The Quality setting affects the SD logged video.

“No camera no video” can be selected if the user wishes to log GPS data only. Note that if a camera is connected to the box this setting will be overwritten, to minimise risk of data loss.

  5. Advance Camera settings – The colour correction matrix and noise filters can be changed for achieving advanced effects.

  6. Log Mode – The unit can be triggered to log manually, automatically when movement is detected, or as soon as powered on.

  7. USB connection status – Allows upload/download of settings via USB, and for use with live SDI monitor setup.
