Below is a step by step guide of setting the Base Station up for ADAS testing.

ADAS Moving Base Setup

Place one VBOX into each vehicle - one will be the subject vehicle and one will be the target vehicle. Racelogic recommend that the target vehicle is used as the moving base. This means that the subject vehicle is only receiving the separation and correction data, not both sending and receiving it. This improves the reliability of the data.

In the subject vehicle

  • Mount the GPS antenna in the centre of the roof at the highest point away from obstructions
  • Attach the antenna cable to the VBOX GPS socket
  • Connect a CAN splitter (RLVBACS024) into the CAN port
  • Connect a serial splitter (RLVBACS024/1) into the serial port
  • Connect the MB ROVER radio into the CAN port
  • Connect the VBOX File Manager into the CAN port
  • Apply power to the power connector
  • Use VBOX File Manager to change DGPS to MB ROVER

In the target vehicle

  • Mount the GPS antenna in the centre of the roof at the highest point away from obstructions
  • Attach the antenna connector into the GPS socket
  • Connect telemetry radio into serial port on VBOX
  • Connect the MB BASE radio into the CAN port
  • Apply power to the power connector
  • Use VBOX File Manager to change target DGPS to MB BASE

Using VBOX File Manager in both vehicles

  • Check LOG RATE is set to '100Hz'
  • Check DGPS RS232 RATE is set to '115200 RACELOGIC'

Confirm that both VBOX units are now in RTK 'Fixed' DGPS status, indicated by either of the following:

  • DIFF LED on the VBOX front panel is illuminated green
  • Open a VBOX Tools live window set to Solution Type. This should show 'RTK FIXED'

ADAS Radio Setup

  • Mount antenna on the highest part of the roof at least 50cm away from other radio antennas
  • Attach antenna cable to the antenna port on the telemetry radio
  • Connect cable RLVBCAB05 to the serial port of the VBOX
  • Connect to telemetry radio
